Our Beginning

Doc's Dogs For Vets was founded by the Pleitez Family in honor of their son, Spc. Benjamin C. Pleitez, a highly trained army medic known as "Doc", who died in Afghanistan July 27, 2012.

During his deployment, Benjamin spoke often about his goal of starting a kennel for breeding and training dogs after he returned to the states. The search for property to build a kennel eventually led to 40 acres in the foothills of Madera.

It is the Pleitez family’s desire to make Ben’s dream a reality, and in so doing, honor his memory and the service of all veterans.

“…the best way to honor Ben’s memory is to provide trained service/assistance dogs to veterans who can benefit from a canine companion.”

Please consider making a donation to help provide a dog for a veteran. The costs are significant but each dollar impacts the life of a veteran, a rescued dog, incarcerated trainers, and numerous members of the community.
